Here Are Common Reasons People Need Dental Veneers

Dental VeneersFew advances, like dental veneers, give dentists and orthodontists a huge boost in their tool box when it comes to replacing or repairing teeth. The wafer-thin, porcelain or composite made veneers have really changed the way that people look at their smile, and we are educating people to the reality that a bad smile is not forever. Crooked and misaligned teeth, teeth that are chipped or cracked, and even yellowing are no reasons why you cannot have the perfect pearly white smile.  Dental veneers are the way you can get there. As the most versatile solution to any of these problems, they have grown in popularity and use, for good reason.Dental veneers have changed smile, which in turn makes us smile. Being able to give back or restore for the first time a beautiful smile is the best part about being a dentist. While we enjoy completing restorations, we also want to teach people how to avoid damaging or wearing down their teeth so that it is less likely they will need them. While replacements and remedies are easier than ever, our desire is that you keep your original teeth for as long as possible and in the best condition possible. The most common, well known, reason for teeth, to wear down, is called erosion. This is a process whereby the teeth gradually lose their enamel protection, exposing the weaker dentin to corrosive substances. Erosion happens naturally every time you expose your teeth to food, or drink, which contains a corrosive acid. Since the majority of foods contain these acids, it is imperative to have a good brushing routine to offset and remove some of the plaque that causes erosion. We have found that sour foods, especially candy, are by far the worst causes of dental erosion which can lead to the need for dental veneers.Another reason, the teeth are worn out, is called attrition. As the name suggests, this is a process of wearing down of the enamel. The more teeth rub against each other, the more likely they are to start wearing out. In some patients, teeth grinding is a chronic problem. Induced by stress and other factors, grinders will often grind their teeth in the day and also during the night when they are sleeping. This can result in severely damaged enamel and could cause the grinder to need dental veneers. The fastest way, however, to end up needing dental veneers is through a wearing down process called abrasion. An abrasion occurs when a person damages their teeth, usually manifesting itself in the form of a chip or a crack in the tooth, while using their teeth as a tool. Teeth were not designed for opening bottles, tearing bags, and even chewing extremely hard substances like the kernels of popcorn. Doing these kinds of activities is almost a sure-fire way to end up with damaged teeth and the need for a restoration. As a local dentist, it is important to use that our patients stay in excellent oral health and decrease their chances of needing restorations or replacements.  If, however, you do damage your teeth, we can help them to look as good as new by using dental veneers or implants.
